Shumeez Scott Foundation in Lentegeur and Liberty Home Marina da Gama are hosting a golf day on Saturday 18 December at Clovelly Golf Course to raise funds for both organisations.
Liberty Home Addiction Care is a secondary care facility that specialises in reintegrating those who suffer from addiction.
“We have been operating for six and a half years. We know there is a big gap between primary care and “normal” life. At Liberty, we focus on giving our residents the tools to handle life on life’s terms. Facing success and failure in recovery is inevitable,” says Vincent Conlon, director.
“Our mission to our residents is that they learn to deal healthily with these challenges as opposed to resorting to their drug of choice or unhealthy coping mechanisms.

“We have moved the fundraiser to the 18th of December as we have been overwhelmed with the support and needed to move it to a day that can accommodate more people,” he says.
Shumeez Scott, the founder of Shumeez Scott Foundation, says she loves to work with other community organisations.
“We, in collaboration with Liberty Home, will host the golf day. It is a four-ball over eight holes and it costs R2 400 per four-ball,” Scott says.
Conlon says they still have six holes and 6 x 4 balls left and are looking for sponsors. “To sponsor a hole costs R2 500 and keep in mind we are doing this charity event for an underprivileged foundation, the Shumeez Scott Foundation, that assists young adults with special needs. Please join us on the day and if you would like to sponsor the event you can contact me directly,” Conlon says.
Scott says the Foundation’s last end-of-year function is a food outreach in Cloetesville, Stellenbosch.
“We hope to feed at least 2 000 people for Christmas. We are still hoping to take the young adults from the Foundation on the last excursion which I definitely know most of them have never seen or done before in their lives and that is a visit to Aquila Game Reserve near Worcester. But to do this we need funds and hopefully, a sponsor will reach out to us.
“We love to work with other community organisations because we stand for breaking the stigma in society and if we stand together we can do much more as a whole,” she says.
